A Symbolic Journey Through 1691: Bringing Comfort, Hope and Grace

This commissioned art piece, holds a deep and meaningful representation of the number 1691. This seemingly arbitrary number, to us, transcends mere digits; it symbolises a heartbreaking journey for those who have experienced loss. The aim of this artwork is to go beyond its numeric origin, offering a sense of calm and hope to those navigating the difficult road of pain, bereavement, and grief.

Inspiration and Concept:
The design draws inspiration from the emotional journey associated with loss. Through the use of AI-generated shapes, I’ve crafted a design that not only pleases aesthetically but also resonates with the complex emotions tied to such experiences.

Connection to Nature:
The intention is to provide a glimpse of the outside world, bringing a touch of comfort to those who might feel confined.

Comfort and Connection:
More than just a window, this design aims to be a source of comfort and connection. The incorporation of different textures invites individuals to get lost in the artwork, potentially finding a glimmer of light in a dark situation.

Data and Statistics:
To ground the piece in the reality of the Northern Trust’s history, I’ve gathered statistics from the NISRA website. From the 1970s to 2022, there have been a total of 1691 recorded stillborn cases. It’s crucial to note that these statistics solely encompass stillbirths, excluding neonatal deaths or miscarriages.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, this art piece transcends its numeric origins, aiming a sense of hope to those who have experienced loss. It’s a symbol of unity, understanding, and the possibility of finding light even in the darkest moments.

Acknowledgments:
I extend my thanks to Graces parents, this piece wouldn’t have been possible without your support.  Also, a special mention to Lesley-Ann Kennedy, the kind heart who helped link me as an artist to the new, beautiful bereavement suite.  I hope this piece brings the future parents a little light in their darkness.
